Addressing a press convention in Kolkata on Wednesday, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stated the state authorities is coordinating with Centre to make sure the return of 200 of the state’s residents stranded in Afghanistan.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday stated that her authorities is coordinating with the Centre for the protected return of over 200 individuals from the state who’re nonetheless stranded in Afghanistan.

She stated that the stranded West Bengal residents are from Kalimpong and Terai who have been working in Afghanistan.

“The chief secretary will write to the Ministry of Exterior Affairs (MEA) to convey them again,” she advised reporters.

Holding that the Afghanistan disaster is a giant downside, she stated, “We should first take care of the security of Indians.”

To a query whether or not the BJP authorities on the Centre ought to revisit the immigration coverage in gentle of the humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan, “It’s a delicate situation and a serious coverage choice. The MEA is monitoring the disaster scenario. I should not touch upon it at current.”
