Senior Congress chief P Chidambaram on Wednesday urged M Venkaiah Naidu to reject the concept of a “Rs 192 crore enclave” for the vice chairman, saying “let vainness perish and sanity prevail”. Chidambaram’s remarks in a tweet got here after a media report claimed that the federal government has set in movement its plan to assemble a brand new residence for the vice chairman by inviting pre-qualification bids for the proposed vice chairman’s enclave subsequent to the North Block and the Rashtrapati Bhavan at an estimated price of Rs 192 crore.

“In an India the place austerity ought to be the watchword in excessive locations, a Rs 192 cr. enclave for the Vice President shall be an abomination,” Chidambaram tweeted.

“Shri Venkaiah Naidu ought to reject the concept so long as he’s Vice President. That is one other vainness mission. Let vainness perish and sanity prevail,” the previous Union minister mentioned.

The Congress has been asking the BJP-led Union authorities to shelve its plans on the Central Vista redevelopment mission, alleging that it’s a “vainness mission” and “wastage” of public funds.
