A boundary dispute festering for 25-odd years escalated into full-blown violence involving safety forces and civilians on both aspect of the Assam-Mizoram interstate border. The clashes left a minimum of six Assam policemen useless and over 50 people injured. Mizoram claims that Assam police provoked these violent clashes and the highest safety officers of each states refused to honour one another’s summons over the July 26 incident.
